Turkey is a country made up of growing cities, beautiful beaches, massive mountain ranges and rugged coastline. It has an incredibly rich history and the country simply overflows with historic sites and archaeological wonders. One can visit the Greco-Roman cities of Pergamom and Ephesus as well as the cave houses that make up the landscape of Cappadocia. But, the very pulse of the country lies in Istanbul  and its Roman aqueducts, Byzantine churches and Ottoman mosques and palaces. Last but not least, the Grande Bazzaar is a shopper's dream.     Day One Arrival in Istanbul, assistance and transfer to hotel. Remainder of day at leisure.

    Day Two After breakfast, full-day tour of Istanbul. Visit St. Sophia Church, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Covered Bazaar. After lunch, tour Topkapi Palace, world-famous residence of the Ottoman Sultans, and the masterpiece Suleymaniye Mosque. Return to hotel. (B, L)

    Day Three Today you will cruise by boat on the Bosphorus, the winding strait separating the continents of Europe and Asia. After lunch, cross the suspension bridge to the Asian side of Istanbul to visit Beylerbeyi Palace and a handicraft center. Following the tour, transfer to airport for domestic flight to Ankara.     Day Six Early departure for Konya, ancient Iconium, and capital of the Selcuk Turks. Visit the Mausoleum of Mevlana, founder of the 12th-century whirling dervish sect. Continue to Antalya on the Mediterranean coast.

    Day Seven Today you visit three cities of antiquity from the Hellenistic and Roman periods: Perge, where St. Paul preached his first sermon; Aspendos, with its best preserved theatre; and Side, with its lively present-day village and lovely beaches. Return to Antalya for the evening.

    Day Eight Depart in the morning for Pamukkale with lunch on the way. Catch the sunset over the petrified, calcified cliffs.

    Day Nine Opportunity in the morning to bathe in the warm spring waters of Pamukkale’s thermal pools. Then visit the Roman ruins of Heirapolis and the ancient city of Aphrodisias, including the Temple of Aphrodite and the colossal stadium. The night is spent in Kusadasi on the Aegean seacoast.

    Day Ten Today you will visit Ephesus, famous city of antiquity, followed by stops at the Shrine of Virgin Mary and the Selcuk Archaeological Museum. Afterward, continue to Izmir, formerly the city of Smyrna.

    Day Eleven Departure for Pergamum, visiting the Asclepion and Acropolis. Continue on to Canakkale, visiting the ancient cities of Troy en route.

    Day Twelve After breakfast, return to Istanbul—crossing the Dardanelles by ferry and a brief visit to Gallipoli, the famous World War Ibattleground. Arrival in Istanbul and your hotel, where the remainder of the day is free.
